Mazda 6
Mazda6 Reviews
Lots of reviews by lots of publications in the first two years of the Mazda6's production. In most reviews, the car comes in second place when compared with other mid-sized family sedans, always bested by the Honda Accord EX. That's fine, because the one thing you get with the Mazda6 that you'll never get with the Accord is exclusivity and sexier styling. I can't drive down the road for more than 2 minutes without seeing at least one (and often two or more) 2004+ Honda Accords. They're everywhere! I don't want a car that looks like everyone else's car, I want something a little more individual.
Road and Track
February 2003
In a comparison of 5 family sedans, the Mazda 6s came in second, behind only the Honda Accord EX. R&T has a great comparison data sheet you can download as well, that compares all 5 cars' specifications side-by-side.
Car and Driver
December 2002 and January 2003
Named one of Car and Driver's 10 Best cars for 2003, you can also read their impressions of the 6s from that listing (January 2003). But they took their first look at the Mazda 6s in December 2002. The 4 cylinder 6i came in second place in a comparison of 10 family sedans. (The Honda Accord again came in first.)
Edmunds.com
December 2003
In their comparison of 10 family sedans, Edmunds.com ranked the Mazda 6s second, behind only the Honda Accord (surprise surprise). For a sedan that's not even on most people's buying list, that's a great ranking! Also see Edmunds long-term update on their Mazda6s.
This site is to detail the journey of my purchase of the upcoming
2004 Mazda 6 5-door (or Mazda6 5-door, depending upon how you write it!) sport sedan.
The 5-door is also referred to as the Mazda 6 Hatchback (although Mazda doesn't call it this).
There is nothing else quite like this on the road, ever since Saab stopped
selling the 5-door versions of their sedans and switched over to purely 4-door
cars (in 2003). Bummer, because folks like me need the versatility of a 5-door
(otherwise known as a hatchback) without making it look like a VW Golf (ew!).
